Research and policy innovation for more resilient development finance

Local Currency for Development is a cross-institutional research hub bringing together researchers from King’s College London, the University of Leeds, City St George’s, University of London, and the Overseas Development Institute (ODI).

We examine how currency shapes development finance, including how exchange rate risk is allocated, priced, and managed, and what this means for debt sustainability, investment, and financial resilience in low- and middle-income countries.

Combining expertise in economics, law, finance, and political economy, we produce rigorous research and policy solutions aimed at expanding access to sustainable and affordable local currency finance.
